OpenID, take 2

In spite of my recent comments on OpenID, the system seems to be gaining momentum. Yahoo!, Microsoft, and now AOL are supporting OpenID to various extents. The Yahoo!-authorized approach (albeit unofficial) that I blogged about before is attempting to solve the phishing problem. Now we need to solve the trust and spam problems.

Could the OpenID infrastructure become a new competitive space? The Yahoo! approach appears to be distinguishing itself by responding to phishing attacks. Perhaps someone else can try to address trust or spam as well?

I'm going to be watching this space closely to see what kinds of solutions present themselves. As the Radar article above indicates, online identity appears to be the next problem that needs to be solved.
